New School in Manastirski Livadi-East Has Its Designer Chosen. Who Is the Competition Winner?

In Sofia’s Manastirski Livadi – East district, construction is set to begin on a new school that will meet the long-standing needs of local residents. Following an architectural competition, it is now also clear which architectural studio will implement the project – IPA Architecture and more.

The area is one of the fastest-growing in Sofia and in recent years has become a preferred place for young families. However, it suffers from a serious shortage of educational infrastructure – the lack of enough schools forces parents to enrol their children in distant districts, which creates inconvenience and adds to traffic. That is precisely why the decision to build a new school in „Manastirski Livadi – East“ was awaited with great interest.

The competition, organised by Sofia Municipality, attracted a number of participants, but the highest score was awarded to the proposal by IPA EOOD. The jury assessed their concept as balanced, contemporary and tailored to the needs of the pupils and the local community. The project is designed to create a modern learning environment while also remaining open to the neighbourhood, becoming a place not only for education but also for social and cultural initiatives.

Selecting the winner of the competition is only the first step in the process. The detailed design still needs to be finalised and construction work is due to begin, bringing the long-awaited building to life. The municipality says it will work for fast and transparent implementation, as the new school is among the most important priorities for the area.

Residents of „Manastirski Livadi – East“ are welcoming the news with optimism. For them, the new school means a better quality of life, greater convenience and security for their children, as well as a guarantee that the district will continue to develop in a sustainable way.
